TheCollector

It's been over a month since the first Pokémon from the generation 2 Pokédex were released into Pokémon Go and it's likely more creatures will be released in the coming weeks.

The generation 2 Pokémon originally appeared in Pokémon Gold and Silver back in 1999. The game was released for the Gameboy Color and included 100 new Pokémon.

Some of the creatures that will be released for Generation 2 will be evolutions of existing Pokémon, which means you can get a head start in collecting candies for these Pokémon so you can ensure your Pokédex is more complete than your friends.

We don't know the number of candies that we'll need for each Pokémon yet, but we've made our best guess! The list of evolving Pokémon expected in Niantic's Pokémon Gen 2 release are:

Crobat and Togetic

  • #169 - Crobat - Finally there is a use for all the Zubat candies you've been collecting. Crobat is the third stage evolution and therefore likely to cost 100 Zubat candies.

  • #176 - Togetic - Togetic is the evolution of new baby Pokémon Togepi, and is already available by using 50 Togepi candies.

Bellossom and Politoed

  • #182 - Bellossom - Save your Oddish candies for this grass Pokémon. Bellossom is an evolution of Gloom, giving Gloom two third stage evolutions with Vileplume. It's likely to cost 100 Oddish candies to evolve, and with a chance of getting another Vileplume, you may want to find a few more.

  • #186 - Politoed - Poliwags have become rather common Pokémon to catch, and it's worth keeping hold of their candies as there is another evolution - the Politoed, which also evolves from the Polywhirl. In Pokémon Gold and Silver evolves from Poliwhirl when traded holding a King's Rock, which has recently been referenced in the code of the game. How and if this particular item will make it to the final version of Pokémon Go remains to be seen, but expect to need at least 100 Polywag candies.

Espeon and Umbreon

  • #196 - Espeon - The first of two more Eevee evolutions, if past evolutions are any indication this may cost 25 Eevee candies. Whether a special item, name or time of the day will require to evolve is unknown.

  • #197 - Umbreon - The second of the new Eevee evolutions and also likely to cost 25 Eevee candies.

Slowking and Steelix

  • #199 - Slowking - Keep catching those Slowpokes, as the SlowKing is another second evolution. In the original games, a Slowpoke evolved in to this Pokémon when holding a King's Rock. This Pokémon may cost 50 Slowpoke candies to evolve, just like other evolution Slowbro.

  • #208 - Steelix - Steelix is an evolution from Onyx that occurs in the games using a Metal Coat. Given the cost of the evolutions of Pokémon around Onix in the Pokédex, this evolution is likely to cost 50 Onyx candies and possibly also require the Metal Coat item. Onyx as a buddy earns a candy every 5km, so this may take a while for those who live far from a Onyx nest!

Scizor and Kingdra

  • #212 - Scizor - Scyther's evolution is a bug/steel type Pokémon and like Steelix also requires the Metal Coat. It is expected to cost 50 Scyther candies.

  • #230 - Kingdra - Horsea is another relatively common Pokémon, which is helpful as it has a third stage evolution in Generation 2. The evolution traditionally requires using a Dragon Scale, but is also likely to cost around 100 Seadra candies.

Porygon2, Hitmontop and Blissey

  • #233 - Porygon2 - Version 2.0 of the Porygon. There's few prizes for guessing which type of candy this particular evolution is going to need. Again, in Pokémon Gold and Silver Porygon2 also required an item - this time it was a Up-Grade. Expect the Porygon2 upgrade to cost 50 Porygon candies.

  • #237 - Hitmontop - With generation 2, Tyrogue became the base evolution of Hitmonlee; Hitmonchan and new Pokeémon Hitmontop. But currently both Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan have their own candies. Whether Niantic merge Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan's candies for the gen 2 release, or Hitmontop works differently we're unsure but for the moment collecting both Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan candies can't do any harm.

  • #242 - Blissey - Blissey is Chansey's second stage evolution. With many players still yet to get 1 Chansey, collecting these candies is likely to be difficult. Expect Blissey's evolution to be a lower number like 25 Chansey candies.

So those are the original Pokémon evolutions of Generation 2. It's time to start saving your candies!
